Community Film Night with Maggie Doyne
Join PowHer: Women’s Networking Collaborative for a special community film night featuring Between the Mountain and the Sky, with nonprofit founder and CNN Hero Maggie Doyne in attendance for a post-film conversation and book signing. A food truck and handcrafted goods will be available for purchase beginning at 5:00 PM to kick off the evening.
This powerful film tells the story of Maggie’s work in Nepal, where she has helped build a community-centered model that integrates education, health care, economic opportunity, and support for children and families. It offers a compelling look at how the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, and work—often referred to as social determinants of health—shape long-term well-being.
While Maggie’s story is global, the themes, particularly of loss and resilience, are deeply relevant here in Western North Carolina in a post-Helene environment. This evening invites our community to reflect on how we care for one another locally, and how relationships, access, and opportunity influence health and resilience over time.
PowHer is a collaborative initiative of the Brevard/Transylvania Chamber of Commerce, Pisgah Health Foundation, SparkPoint, and Kayla Leed Creative, focused on connection, leadership, and community impact among women.
Registration is required due to limited space; the event is free.
